Get Involved

Living in right relationship with Lisjan Nation people is big, beautiful work. It can only happen when members of our community, from residents and office holders to teachers and business owners, get involved. There are many ways to do that!

Participate in Good Guest Kensington.

Become a GGK Member. As a Member, you’ll help shape GGK’s vision, define goals and choose and implement activities. Members also learn together and build relationships with each other. If you are interested in this role, send an email to goodguestkensington@gmail.com. We’ll tell you more about the opportunities and commitments. Anyone can become a Member. If you are new to this kind of work, we welcome you and offer lots of support!

Support GGK. You can be part of GGK without becoming a Member by participating in these ways: respond to GGK requests for volunteers, attend GGK programs, share your ideas and feedback by emailing us at goodguestkensington@gmail.com, contribute to fundraising requests. To support GGK, subscribe to our newsletter. You’ll receive updates about GGK’s work and learn about opportunities to plug in.

Be a good guest on Lisjan Nation land. No matter how you participate in GGK, you can always take actions to live in Kensington as good guests on Lisjan Nation land. Here are some ways to do that:

  • Give Shuumi, a voluntary contribution that non-Native people can make to support Lisjan Nation.

  • Support the sacred West Berkeley Shellmound.

  • Learn about Lisjan Nation people, colonization, Indigenous solidarity and GGK’s work. We offer a starting point

  • Follow Sogorea Te’ Land Trust on social media, so you can get familiar with their work and hear calls for support.

  • Learn about your family’s origin place(s) and migration stories, and reflect on how you arrived here in Kensington.

  • Get to know the land of Kensington, the watershed, creeks, plants and animals, and care for it.

  • If you own land, return it to Lisjan Nation people. (We can give you some initial guidance.)
